Sandeep Chinta
Bio
Dr. Sandeep Chinta is a Senior Postdoctoral Associate at MIT’s Center for Sustainability Science and Strategy (CS3). His research focuses on weather and climate extremes and their impacts on communities and infrastructure, with particular interest in understanding how these risks may evolve in the future.
His work integrates physics-based modeling, statistical methods, and machine learning to study weather and climate processes across spatial and temporal scales. His research encompasses regional climate modeling and dynamical downscaling, the assessment of extreme weather risks to energy infrastructure, and methane emissions modeling. He has also developed computational approaches for model emulation, parameter calibration, and sensitivity analysis.
His recent research interests include deep learning and emerging AI-based weather and climate models, particularly their potential to improve regional climate information and the characterization of extreme events. More broadly, his work aims to bridge advances in Earth system science and computational methods to support risk assessment and informed decision-making.
