Abstract / Summary:

Abstract: NEUS-D3 is a new high-resolution dynamically downscaled climate dataset for the Northeastern United States designed to support regional climate research and infrastructure resilience applications. The dataset is generated using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model on nested 27-, 9-, and 3-km domains over the northeastern United States. The initial release focuses on simulations driven by one selected CMIP6 global climate model and one future emissions scenario, with planned expansion to additional CMIP6 models, scenarios, and historical simulations. NEUS-D3 is designed to provide high-resolution meteorological fields, including near-surface temperature, precipitation, wind, humidity, snow, and land-surface variables that support analyses of climate extremes and regional hazards. Planned applications include assessments of winter storms, freezing rain and icing, heavy precipitation, extreme winds, snow, and other weather hazards relevant to infrastructure resilience, electric power systems, and regional climate adaptation. We introduce the NEUS-D3 domain configuration, dataset characteristics, and the first dynamically downscaled simulations. We also summarize the validation approach for the initial release and discuss planned expansion toward a multi-model, multi-scenario regional climate dataset for the northeastern United States.
