Getting to Samberg Conference Center and the Marriott Hotel
MIT is located on the north shore of the Charles River Basin in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. The campus is within 3 miles of two major interstate highways, less than 6 miles from a major international airport, and is accessible via public transportation.
Shuttles from Logan Airport
The SL1 bus (Silver Line 1) picks up and drops off at every Logan Airport terminal, with connections to the Red Line and Commuter Rail at South Station in downtown Boston. Service from Logan Airport is always free.
After the Forum, when you're headed to Logan Airport from Kendall MIT, transfer from the Red Line at South Station to the SL1.
Subway Tickets
If you’re taking the Blue Line or you plan to use the T for more than just transportation to the city center, you will need to purchase a ticket.
The MBTA offers what they call a CharlieCard or a CharlieTicket. The CharlieCard is valid on subways, local buses, and the Silver Line, while the CharlieTicket is also valid on Commuter Rail and Charlestown Ferry.
Most people will only need a CharlieCard, but you can also purchase 1-day, 7-day, and monthly passes.
- CharliePass: $2.40
- CharlieTicket: $2.90
- 1-Day Pass: $11.00
- 7-Day Pass: $22.50
Getting from Logan Airport to...
The Marriott Hotel, 50 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02142
From any terminal at Logan Airport, take the Silver Line bus to South Station. At South Station, change to the Red Line subway to Kendall/MIT (inbound toward Alewife). Under normal conditions the ride will take about one-half hour and the fare is $2.40 (Charlie Card) or $2.50 (cash). The hotel will be across the street.
UBER: You can also use Uber if you want to skip the subway.
TAXI: Just outside of arrivals, you will see the signs directing you to the taxi stand. Taxi fare from the airport is about $35–$40. During non-rush hour, the taxi ride will take about 15 minutes. During rush hour, the ride could take 30 minutes or more.
RENTAL CAR: Leaving the airport, follow the signs to the Sumner Tunnel. Enter the tunnel and stay in the right lane. At the end of the tunnel, continue to stay in the right lane, start down an incline and bear to the right immediately at the sign for Storrow Drive. Take Exit 26 for Cambridge/Somerville. Public parking at MIT
Parking in Cambridge and Boston is generally not an enjoyable experience. Whenever possible, park your car at the hotel at which you are staying, and use public transportation to get to the MIT campus. If you must drive to the campus, there is both on- and off-street parking available, but most public parking is not very close to the center of the MIT campus (unless you arrive early in the morning or late in the evening).
There is metered parking on Main Street for short stays and evenings/weekends, as well as a number of lots at which you may park for a fee. These include Vassar St. Public Parking at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Vassar Street, The Kendall Center Green Garage, and the Marriott Parking Garage on Ames St. and Broadway.
