Aerosol cloud interactions: A new perspective in precipitation enhancement

Bhaskar Gunturu will present in the MIT Atmospheric Science Seminar Series. Abstract: Aerosol concentration effects on precipitation from deep convective clouds have been studied using a cloud resolving model coupled with an aerosol-chemistry-and-physics model which computes aerosol activation using explicit physics. The results show the established relationships between aerosol concentrations and precipitation at low and high aerosol concentrations. The results also indicate a peak in precipitation at intermediate aerosol concentrations due to effective ice-rain drop collection.
