IAP 2017: Climate Science 102 - Modeling Systems

How does the global climate system respond to forcings? How can models detect changes and attribute them to human activity?

Justin Bandoro

This lecture will build on 101 and dive into an overview of how the climate system responds to both natural and human-caused forcings, and how scientists can detect and attribute observed changes in the climate system to human activity. Topics will include: i) Radiative forcing and important atmospheric constituents, ii) Forcing and feedbacks in the climate system, iii) Climate modeling, iv) Introduction to the field of detection and attribution.
