MIT Center for Sustainability Science and Strategy (CS3) at COP29
Developing sustainable solutions for agriculture
On November 19 in Baku, Azerbaijan, MIT Center for Sustainability Science and Strategy Deputy Director/MIT Energy Initiative Senior Research Scientist Sergey Paltsev delivered a presentation on increasing the efficiency and sustainability of agriculture as part of the official program of the Indonesia Pavilion session on Carbon Reduction in Indonesia’s Agriculture Value Chain at the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP29).
Paltsev’s presentation focused on MIT expertise and tools that promote sustainable agriculture solutions at local, regional and global levels. In particular, he highlighted ongoing MIT CS3 projects in Bangladesh and Africa, where collaborations between scientists, practitioners and decision-makers are advancing climate literacy, capacity development, and solution-framing to address the climate crisis and sustainability.
“It is extremely important to recognize the connection between our overall global goals and local actions. We need to find the way how each of us is going to contribute to the solution,” said Paltsev. “We are trying to bring the view from the global level to a regional level and to a very local level, at the level of the farmers. We need to make sure that we are providing not just a clean solution, but we are providing an affordable solution where all farmers, all customers, all citizens have an adequate supply of food and all other ingredients that are needed for a sustainable future.”
Paltsev’s presentation is available on the Youtube channel of the Indonesia Pavilion (time of the segment is 4:05:33-4:46:50)
